Presentation Description:

Effective communication is critical for maintaining effective working relationships with students, co-workers, and campus partners, but planning so that interactions, messaging, and strategies are effective can often be neglected.  This session explores communication theory, provides strategies for enhancing communication skills, and offers best practices in communicating for comprehension and compliance.  Presenters will discuss real-world examples to improve understanding and engagement to ensure that effective communication planning is not just an afterthought. 

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to identify key communication components, models, and styles enabling them to apply communication theory in their daily interactions.
  • Participants will develop practical techniques to improve understanding, clarity, active listening, and reflection in their communication practices.
  • Attendees will explore crafting communication tailored to organizational goals and target audiences and leave with strategies to implement strategic communication planning in the workplace.
