Presentation Description:

Campuses and programs that emphasize community service for international students foster meaningful inclusion in host communities and impactful contributions abroad. Attendees will hear from three diverse host universities for the Global Undergraduate Exchange (Global UGRAD) Program and how they have supported the service learning of their short-term international visitors. Speakers share their approaches and resources and reflect on the community benefits of student involvement and the magnified impact students go on to make in their home communities world-wide.

Learning Objectives:

Identify challenges and strategies for supporting community engagement amongst international students (short-term exchange programs/visitors). Speaker(s) from each institution will share experiences and tips for collaborating internally and supporting students.
Explore service learning’s impact from host campuses/communities to home communities, as demonstrated by Global UGRAD alumni of Xavier University, University of the Incarnate Word, and University of the Ozarks.
Consider technology applications for driving community engagement on campus and growing community-oriented mindsets in (short-term) exchange programs, as with alumni engagement activities coordinated by World Learning’s Global UGRAD Team.
